2026 TBOWIT Board Openings

All positions are voluntary, unpaid positions and board members commit to 2-year terms. Newly appointed Board Members will assume their role in January 2026 and their term will end in December 2027, unless otherwise voted by the Board to continue in their position or a new position for the following term. Time commitments as a Board Member may range from 10-15 hours per month depending on role.

PRESIDENT

Position Overview:

The TBOWIT President serves as the organization's chief volunteer leader and public representative. This individual provides strategic leadership to the board of directors, ensures alignment with the organization’s mission to promote and empower women in international trade, and fosters engagement with stakeholders throughout the Tampa Bay region and beyond. The President works closely with board members, partners, and the broader trade and business community to further TBOWIT’s professional development, education, and networking initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Provide vision and direction in alignment with TBOWIT’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Lead the board in setting annual objectives and reviewing organizational performance.
  • Ensure strong governance practices and adherence to the organization’s bylaws and policies.

Board & Committee Management

  • Preside over board meetings, executive committee sessions, and member assemblies.
  • Facilitate active participation, collaboration, and accountability for each role among board members while ensuring proper representation of the organization by each member.
  • Support the recruitment and development of board and committee leadership.

Organizational Representation

  • Act as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for TBOWIT at events, in the media, and with strategic partners.
  • Represent TBOWIT within the Women in International Trade (OWIT) global network and other professional organizations.

Program Oversight & Support

  • Collaborate with committees and chairs to ensure effective planning and execution of programs, including networking events, educational seminars, and mentoring initiatives.
  • Guide the organization in creating value for its members and enhancing diversity and inclusion in trade-related professions.

Partnerships & Outreach

  • Foster relationships with government agencies, business leaders, academic institutions, and international trade organizations to expand the organization's reach and influence.
  • Identify and pursue sponsorship, partnership, and fundraising opportunities to sustain and grow TBOWIT’s initiatives.

Succession Planning & Legacy

  • Ensure continuity of leadership through mentorship and development of future board leaders.
  • Maintain institutional knowledge and guide the long-term sustainability of the organization.

Qualifications: 

  • Background in international business is required. 
  • Strong leadership and people skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of TBOWIT.

TREASURER

Position Overview:

The Treasurer is a key member of the TBOWIT Board of Directors, responsible for overseeing the organization's financial health and integrity. This role requires a commitment to transparency, accuracy, and sound fiscal management to support TBOWIT’s mission of promoting international trade and empowering women in global business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the organization.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing funds, including dues, event revenues, and operational expenses.
  • Prepare and present financial reports at monthly board meetings.
  • Develop annual budgets in collaboration with the Board and monitor adherence throughout the year.
  • Ensure timely filing of all necessary federal and state financial documents (e.g., tax filings, annual reports).
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements and maintain financial records in accordance with standard accounting practices.
  • Coordinate with committees and event chairs on budgeting and financial planning.
  • Support annual audit or financial review processes as needed.
  • Advise the Board on financial strategy and sustainability.
  • Serve as a co-signer on TBOWIT’s bank accounts and ensure proper authorization procedures are followed for disbursements.

Qualifications:

  • Background in finance, accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software is a plus.

VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING

Position Overview:

The VP of Marketing is responsible for leading and executing comprehensive marketing strategies, shaping the organization’s public image and expanding its reach throughout Tampa Bay.  The VP will work closely with other members of the board to share timely communications regarding the organization, events, membership updates, scholarship awards and industry-related news.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design marketing materials for TBOWIT’s monthly events and quarterly webinars.
  • Promote TBOWIT by engaging members, potential members and guests through email marketing, social media and local media press releases.
  • Manage overall aesthetics and changes to TBOWIT’s website, including event page setup and event communications for regular events and webinars.

Qualifications:

  • Background in marketing is required, and international business is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Strong creative and organizational skills.
  • Experience with LinkedIn, Canva (design software) or Wild Apricot (website) is a plus.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of TBOWIT.

VICE PRESIDENT OF MEMBERSHIP

Position Overview:

The VP of Membership is responsible for keeping an updated registry of current members, welcoming new members, and recruitment of membership. The VP will work closely with other members of the board to share member updates, recruitment status and opportunities for corporate member engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administrative duties include following up on pending membership renewals, memberships that are suspended, and activating new members via email and phone calls.
  • Ensuring members are capitalizing their member benefits throughout the year at all membership levels.
  • At events, the VP runs the registration table, checking registered attendees in and welcoming them, ensuring that they are connected to other attendees.
  • Promoting and recruiting TBOWIT members through TBOWIT events or other local international networking events.
  • Targeting corporate members to further TBOWIT’s mission in increasing international business through key partnerships at Tampa Bay corporations.

  • Strong networking and people skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of TBOWIT.

DIRECTOR OF INNOVATION & INTERNSHIP

Position Overview:

The Director of Innovation & Internship is responsible for overseeing and developing a comprehensive internship program, encompassing recruitment and training, while also fostering relationships with employers and academic institutions. The Director will work closely with other members of the board to identify the best placement and responsibilities for interns within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the internship program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and student needs.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with members and employers to secure intern hosting opportunities.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate the appropriateness and relevance of hosts for students.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract qualified interns.
  • Screen and select interns, ensuring they meet program requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to interns throughout their internship experience.
  • Promote the internship program within the organization, to members, and to potential collaborators.

Qualifications:

  • Background in education and/or workforce development preferred.
  • Passion for innovation & mentorship a plus. 
  • Commitment to the mission and values of TBOWIT.
ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

The TBOWIT Advisory Council is a collective of experienced professionals who serve as trusted thought partners to the board of directors. They help shape the organization’s long-term vision and strategic direction. Advisory Council Members support TBOWIT’s mission to promote international trade and empower women across all industry sectors.

This volunteer position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in global trade, logistics, policy, international business law, or related sectors who are passionate about giving back and growing the next generation of trade leaders. Advisory Council Members are not responsible for day-to-day governance but provide strategic insight and guidance to the executive board members, open doors for partnerships, and serve as ambassadors of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer guidance on strategic initiatives, programs, and outreach
  • Connect TBOWIT with industry leaders, opportunities, and resources
  • Provide mentorship or expertise to support board committees or events
  • Promote TBOWIT’s mission within your professional network
  • Attend quarterly advisory council meetings (virtual or in-person as feasible)

Ideal Candidates:

  • Have 10+ years of professional experience in law, international trade, international business, diplomacy, or related industries
  • Are engaged leaders who value mentorship, collaboration, and inclusion
  • Can offer strategic, high-level insight and act as a connector within the industry
  • Are enthusiastic about supporting women in global commerce

This is a non-governing, advisory-only role with a flexible time commitment, ideal for seasoned professionals seeking to contribute their experience meaningfully without the demands of board service.
